No doubt there have been many acts demonstrating love and devotion
to St. John's Flushing Episcopal Church during its more than 100 years
of existence. It is most likely that most of such acts are unknown and
unpublished. The picture above was just a chance-shot by the current webmaster's
lens. It is posted here as an example of what members of St. John's
congregation are currently going through to help sustain the operations
of their church. The date and time was Friday, June 30, 2006 at around
6:50 P.M.. Most families were trekking out of town or preparing for the
four-day holiday week-end in celebration of July 4th. This family -
Shawn Spencer, wife Barbara and son John Roberts [not in picture but
also working that evening was eldest son, Glenn Spencer] - opted instead to
come help renovate the Church Rectory. They know pretty well the dire
financial difficulties gripping St. John's. They came to contribute
their time and talents on top of what they give in alms during Sundays.
They left at past 10:00 P. M. By the way, Barbara Spencer also
helps teach Sunday School at St. Johns.
May this picture serve as an encouragement to the other members of
the congregation and proof to the church authorities that St. John's
Episcopal Church is worthy of their support.
