50th Wedding Anniversary
of
Edward and Hope Hambrecht
On Sunday, April 17, 1994, Saint. John's Episcopal
Church, Flushing, Queens was the scene of the renewal of wedding vows
of Edward and Hope Hambrecht on the occasion of their 50th Wedding
Anniversary. This took place during the Sunday Eucharist conducted by
the Rev. Frederick J. Howard, interim pastor of Saint John's.
After the mass, Ed & Hope were honored at a gala
champagne luncheon organized by the Episcopal Church Women and attended
by many parishioners, neighbors & friends.
Hope was baptized in Saint John's on July 4, 1920, by
the Rev. George W. Eccles, first rector of the parish and confirmed by
Bishop Stires during the tenure of the Rev. Leonard Twinem, second
rector, in 1930. On April 21, 1944, Muriel Hope Palmer was married
to Edward Hambrecht in Saint John's by the Rev. Hebert C. Benjamin,
third rector. Ed was originally from Collingswood, NJ and lead mechanic
for American Airlines.
The Hambrechts have 2 sons, Edward Palmer & Wayne
Robert. Both were baptized & confirmed during the leadership of Saint
John's 4th rector, The Rev. Canon Milton W. Good. Both sons have been
Acolytes at Saint John's. Edward serves to this day for over 38 years.
They have a grandson, Christian Edward.
The Hambrechts have been extremely active & faithful
parishioners of Saint John's. Hope has long been with the Episcopal
Church Women and Ed has served on the Vestry, Search Committee & has for
years overseen the maintenance of the buildings & grounds.
Ed and Hope Hambrecht have both been awarded the
Bishop's Cross for distinguished Parochial Service. This was during the
tenure of Saint John's fifth rector, The Rev. Bruce F. Irwin.
As Saint John's Flushing looks forward to its 100th
anniversary and the election of its sixth rector, we rejoice that we are
blessed with such people as Ed and Hope Hambrecht and ask God to give
them many more years of wedded happiness. Source: St.
