Re: Boiler Fund Drive
Greetings from the St. John's Flushing
Congregation:
St. John’s Episcopal Church in Flushing, Queens is
appealing for assistance in raising funds towards replacing its 30-year
old boiler with a new one. The boiler got submerged by a basement flood last February and needs a major overhaul to make
it work efficiently. However, estimates for such an overhaul is considered too costly with no guarantee that the boiler could
last long enough to justify its repair cost. Repairmen from 3 different
boiler companies are unanimous in their evaluation that it is better to
replace the boiler with a new one.
The cost of a new boiler plus the pipes needed to
heat the church comfortably is estimated at $25,000.00. It would be too
much to ask the congregation to shoulder the entire amount amongst
themselves. While the members of the congregation have shown a dramatic
growth during the last 3 years, the annual church deficit continue to be
a major concern of their stewardship efforts. Observations seem to indicate that the stewardship
efforts has started to exact its toll on the church attendance of a few
members of the congregation. Certainly we do not want to exacerbate the
situation.
We are, therefore, appealing for assistance not
only from the members of the congregation but also from::
- our friends;
- civic-minded business establishments in our
neighborhood;
- the more affluent churches/congregation in the
Episcopal/Anglican communion; and
- all who are blessed with much in life who
would like to thank the Lord by sharing a little of their blessings
with the less fortunate of their brethren.
St. John’s Episcopal Church in Flushing is not for
the exclusive use of the congregation. Its facilities are open to
religious as well as civic-related initiatives in the community such as boys
and girls scouting, alcoholic rehabilitation, feed-the-homeless programs,
ecumenical services, and other related activities.
Your donation [any amount is welcome] towards the
purchase of a new boiler will go a long way towards helping St. John’s
Episcopal Church administer its religious and civic related services. You
will be entitled to a tax deduction for your donations as the
beneficiary, St. John's Episcopal Church, is a duly recognized religious
institution.
Thank you and may you continue to be looked upon
with favor by our Father in Heaven from whom all blessings flow.
Your faithful servants in Christ,
Edwin Medina
Senior Warden The Rev. Dario Palasi
