Through the initiative of the Rev.
Dario Palasi, the Brotherhood of St. John's Episcopal
Church, Flushing, New York was organized on January 15, 2006.
Initially the plan was to reorganize the
Brotherhood of St. Andrew which was then in a state of hiatus following the death of its
President, Dr. Pierre, in 2004. However, after serious consideration of
the commitments that they will have to honor as a member of the
nationwide Brotherhood of St.
Andrew, as well as their commitments to St. John's Flushing
Episcopal Church, Flushing, the churchmen decided to focus their
church-related commitments on the later. They opted to organize as plain
Brotherhood of St. John's Episcopal Church, Flushing, Queens, New York.
A primary consideration for
organizing the Brotherhood of St. John's Flushing was to refocus on the role of
churchmen in bringing men to Christ. This
role shall be grounded on prayer, study and service.
It has been
observed in many Episcopal Churches that this role of bringing men to
Christ through prayer, study and service has slowly been abdicated by
men to women. Determined to minimize, if not totally insulate, the
impact of this alarming trend at St. John's Episcopal Church, Flushing,
the Rev. Dario Palasi tirelessly pursued the reorganization and
revitalization of the Brotherhood of St. John's Flushing. Thus far the men's response has
been positive.
The church attendance of
St. John's Flushing men has been fairly consistent, unlike the
observation in other Episcopal churches where men just drop off their
women folks and children to church and pick them up again after playing
golf or attending to some business matters.
Five members of the
Brotherhood [Brian Gulian, Edong Montero, Manuel Ibuaka, Vincent Gardoki
and William Gumpeng] underwent training qualifying them to assist in
administering the bread and wine during communion.
Many of the Brotherhood are
members of the newly organized church choir; and all of them are ever
ready to lend a helping hand in cleaning and minor repair works for the
church building/premises.
The latest response to Fr.
Palasi's efforts for an ever growing involvement of churchmen in
shepherding more men folks to church, particularly from Queens diverse
ethnic communities, is this website.
