Dear Parishioners and Friends,
I
want to share this email from Dr. Soledad M. Cutiyog who is the
treasurer of Holy Guardian Angels Parish, Pico, la Trinidad, Benguet.
I'll also forward the pictures sent by her daughter. Please disregard my
earlier announcement that the money we sent will be used to buy
mattresses for those evacuees house at Holy Angles.
Peace and blessings,
Fr. Palasi
Dear Padi,
Hi! Last Sunday, the Vestry of the Holy Guardian Angels PArish met
to deliberate on what items to buy for the evacuees using the money you
sent through the Madadsecs. After so much discussion, we ended up
deciding to give the cash to them as we have observed that many donors
give food, clothing and school supplies. Cash donations, we feel, is the
immediate need at the moment, for them to buy their basic necessities.
In fact, we were wondering how they'd cope up with building their new
houses the moment the government finds relocation sites for them.
In the evening of the same day, the Vestry met and fellowshipped
with the evacuees where Padi Carino informed them about the $850 you and
your congregation had heartily sent and which was converted into pesos
in the amount of P39,100.00 based on the current exchange rate of P46.00
to a dollar. Each of the 8 families received P4,887.50 and one could see
how happy and appreciative they were. Bannie will be sending along with
this letter some pictures during that evening fellowship and interaction
with them. The small boy handing out the envelopes to the recipients is
my grandson , Gian.
Earlier in the day, John and I went to Little Kibungan in Puguis to
assess the aftermath of Typhoon Peping and we were there in time to
witness the retrieval from the thick soil of the last missing resident
of Little Kibungan. After the typhoon on October 9, 4 of the dead
relatives of this last retrieved body were watched over at our church.
They had waited for this last body for sometime but couldn't wait any
longer so they were buried earlier.
The other pictures are shots of Little Kibungan after retrieval
operations. We were really shocked at how vast the damage was. 76
residents died here and what is still being asked is about possible
unaccounted people that might still be buried in the slide because one
of the houses which toppled down is a 3-storey boarding house.
There are lots more evacuess in other evacuation centers but we are
concentrating on the people housed in out church as we feel it our
responsibility to care for them.
An acknowledgement letter of your support from HGAP and the
recipients is on its way to St. John's Episcopal Church through you.
On November 25, John and I will be flying to Pensacola to attend
the wedding of his nephew on the 28th. Pristine will meet us there as
she and her husband had migrated to Virginia early October from Japan.
We had hoped to drop by New York and visit you but it seems its a moot
plan since we might not be going there after all, but I will call when
we do.
We're all fine here after the typhoon and we're expecting another
one this Sunday. Hopefully it will not hit Benguet.
Until then, much love! Regards to Cathy and the kids.
Your Ninang Sol
